    Village Magazine

    Hey all

I need to do a very small focus group on Village Magazine for a college project. Just wondering what you sall think of it?

Is it biased to the left?
    Is it value for money?
    Is it any good?!

Just tell me what you think of it if you have time!

    Thanks.

It's edited/owned by a pompous twit who poses as a lefty.

It's left leaning, although it is at least honest about it (take note, Indo group)

I haven't read it in a while, his ass kissing of Haughey showed Browne up to be a hypocrite and I couldn't be bothered giving cash to that.

    Yes.
    Not particularly.
All diversity of media ownership in Ireland should be welcome. So a small yes for that. All nepotism in Irish media is to be abhorred. So a small no for that.

    No, not really.

As previous posters have said we should be grateful for any diversity, but I don't think Vincent Browne is lacking any pulpits to preach from - the walking defination of a hypocritical D4 Champagne Socialist. Contrarian Twit. His over exposure and longetivity lead to the fact that his views can be predicted on a given issue long before you read them (everything is the fault of poverty, the government doesn't do enough for blah blah...). He doesn't seem to have a sense of irony with his views. I would almost go as far as to say he is a Left version of Eoghan Harris, and friends that it is the worst insult I could give.

In saying that, I do like Maureen Dowds sydicatted NYT column. The musings on the media from Harry Browne are OK (it does seem to be a family enterprise). I haven't bought it in yonks.

I buy Magill once or twice a year, it's OK, but has a high opinion of itself, and for a bi-monthly magazine is quite slim in content.

The Economist would be my magazine of choice.

Harry Browne is definitely not related to Vincent. Harry is an American.

    1. Yes, but I think the Irish Catholic is a bit left so shows what I know.

    2. No.

    3. I bought it once when I saw an article that caught my eye. It was in Bus Aras and I spent the next hour laughing my head off, so in that way yes.

I don't know what its print circulation is now, but its online readership must be extremely small, as many of the threads that VB opens on it are there for weeks without attracting a single posted comment. Contrast with P.ie.
