The European Commission plans on tackling fake news as part of a broader effort to protect democracy.
"Fake news is a direct threat to the very foundations of our democratic society," EU commissioner for digital economy, Mariya Gabriel said on Monday (13 November).
Speaking at a conference on fake news in Brussels, Gabriel announced plans to set up an expert panel that will feed into possible legislation later on.

I wonder if the lovely Mariya has ever read 1984?????????

The direction of travel is obvious. Registration will be required for social media.
The Establishment want to shut down discourse, now they realise people have got a mind of their own, and not completely brainwashed by MSM.
Meanwhile the march to war goes on.
This won't end well. I hope we can stay neutral.

    This is truly gobsmacking stuff.

The European Commission has a "fake news web site". Check out this creepy stuff:

I just see everyone standing by, letting politicians and bureaucrats everywhere simply turn our liberal democracies into centrally planned Socialist states.

The direction of travel is all in one direction. "Collective" over individual. Directed activity over free choice. Allowed and vetted information over a market place of ideas. I truly hate the direction this is travelling. The direction is, of course, centrally planned and prescribed by an elite.

So long as there's no attempt to actually block internet/social media idiots, to have a place where the alternative reality can be found is probably not a bad thing.

Now where are we meant to get breaking news about gay frogs and Muslim Uber drivers?

I'm trying to think of an alternative but this infowars endorsed Brain Force Plus is giving me nosebleeds and memory loss.

To be fair, one of the biggest problems the EU has been ridiculously bad communication and an inability to respond to made up nonsense in the tabloids.

The amount of stuff that is blamed on the EU in the UK papers in particular is crazy and in a lot of cases it’s used as both a whipping boy and bogeyman by local and national governments who want to implement something unpleasant, unpalatable or deal with something that they’ve made a complete cock up of.

The amount of times (more so in the UK) where “European regulations” are blamed on some jobsworth, pedantic law or bureaucratic process that is entirely locally inflicted is shocking.

Then you’ve got the euromyths where certain papers just make things up entirely or grossly misinterpret some technical regulation.

I’m not saying this to defend everything the EU does, but if we want to actually have an accountable, functioning EU it needs to be able to communicate what it’s actually doing as opposed to what some tabloid hack who foams at the mouth when they hear the term Euro.

Facts are facts and bull************************ is bull************************. If you mix the two you get a stinking mess. See: USA in 2017 for an illustration.

They don't know the meaning of the word democracy. Completely unelected and unaccountable leadership, overturned democratic results in Ireland, Netherlands etc and want to undermine democratically elected governments in Eastern Europe.
