New "Screen" tax for RTE will charge all businesses

The government is saying that all screens larger than 11" will now be covered by the RTE/TV License fee. That will sweep in all small shops, cafes and offices - all of which have screens for their computers, tills, CCTV screens, etc.

Now laptop users will have to buy TV licence - Independent.ie

Is it logical or fair to tax small businesses like this?

Perhaps they will have an exemption for that, but the CCTV screen over the till will be covered.

Extortion is the word for it. A vile piece of thievery forcing people to pay for a service they largely despise and don't believe. Everybody in RTE is living on immoral earnings. Money stolen from us under threat of prison. Boycott them, their advertisers and their licence fee.

The multinationals need to lobby to have this nonsense defeated, as I said on the other thread, Microsoft+Apple+Intel v's RTE?

Up to and until everyone in RTE is on the AIW there's no justification for this...it's just another "establishment" tax.

Wait until some government muppet says Ireland is a low tax economy!!!!
