Sindo V Mail on Sunday - Is anybody else bored by this?

In last week's Sindo there were three articles which they criticised journalists from the Mail newspaper. I'm not sure why the biggest newspaper in Ireland would seek to raise the profile of their rivals but mostly I am bored by newspapers reporting on each other. Its symptomatic of the 'Ivory Towers' element of the national media, where they spend too much time worrying about each other and not hitting the issues that are affecting their readers. Anybody else agree with these sentiments

Don't know why anyone would read either to be perfectly honest. Similarly I wouldn't be surprised by the antics of either.

The Sindo is definately a better paper. It's far more absorbent.

I don't know why they engage in this kind of thing. It's like a petty children's squabble and only undermines their credibility as journalists. Plus to those of us not involved it's a case of who cares.

If they want to make it interesting then all these journalists should have to sort their differences out in some kind of death match.

Never read either, so I don't know what you're talking about.

On the other hand, I've always been amused by the Phoenix's obsession with the Sindo.

In my opinion, the Sunday Business Post is the only Sunday paper with some worthy news. All the others (Sindo, Tribune etc.) are celebrity gossip rags of the highest order (30 pages of Britney Spears followed by 10 pages of British prole soccer).

A little harsh way to describe soccer fans!

I think the SBP is OK, good supplements but quite dull.

The Sunday Indo and Tribune have some good writers between them, but you have to tolerate all the other crap with them.

I think The Sunday Times or The Observor would be my paper of choice

The Sunday Busimess Post would be perfect if it had sports and world news sections that covered more than 2 pages combined.

The Sindo is the biggest selling newspaper in Ireland for the same reason Westlife sell out the Point Depot 14 nights in a row and Leona Lewis will have the No 1 christmas album.

That reason being that you can't trust the general public to make the right decisions about anything. The more popular something is the more it lacks quality.

Pravda is still going you know.

I don't read either of them, but from time to time if there was a good CD or DVD (had to get the mail last Saturday because Patrick Stewart's version of Christmas Carol was free and that is just class, though not as good as George C Scott's version.) free, I would get one of them. Plus, it's nice to have a good old laugh at the Sindo from time to time. No journalistic value, but great comedy value.

I'm still to this day surprised that John Drennan politely said excuse me, when we bumped into each other at the SF ard-fheis a few years ago. I assumed he'd claim to have been assaulted.
