"Independent" newspapers now a government tool?

Irish Independent Prints Shocking Faked Propaganda Story Against Anti Water Protesters - Direct Democracy IrelandDirect Democracy Ireland

It's quite clear that the Independent has become an official media outlet for the government. When they are not photoshopping pictures to frighten people, they are scaremongering as you can see from this morning's front page.

Does anyone think that this could be Denis O'Brien paying back the government following the seemingly constant stream of government contracts awarded to his business empire?

Let's not forget that the Independent has a history of trying to influence the electorate, as anyone who remembers the 1997 election will testify.

Adams taunts Dáil? This will so very back fire. That the PR consultants earning hundreds of thousands can't see it is stunning.

"The week that shook Republic to its core - Chilling threats sent to Taoiseach's phone as anarchy hits the streets" ? Who are they kidding, such misleading tripe.

Any paper that hosts a bad entertainment host such as Brendan on their front page political analysis cannot be credible.

This picture on the online version of the Sunday Independent is even worse, in my view and as another poster pointed out in the Jobstown thread, this picture with the insert makes it look like the Tánaiste was in the garda car, when in actual fact the brick throwing incident was after the protest The week that shook Republic to its core - Independent.ie

    Actually, I take that back.

Looks like the alleged corruption scandal in the Indo last week, may be in Mayo. Isn't that Enda's turf?

All this SF noise covers up alleged corruption and cover-up stories. Like the Mayo alleged corruption one and the fact that Minister Bruton held on to that witness statement for two years.

Mayo council 'not contacted' over report on planning fraud - Independent.ie

It's not really about protests on the streets and SF, it's about deflection folks.

As expected the IW plan will be rephrased, rebranded, and repackaged - without any efficiency or quality improvements.

And it will be paid for from the magic money tree - the taxpayer. Plus borrowing.

IW has a lot in common with INM. The sums don't add up. The product is dodgy. The taxpayer is funding a shortfall from operations. And an increasing proportion of the population finds both incredulus.

They are shook without a doubt. The great only appear great because we are on our knees let us arise, James Connolly said and for the first time in my life I see that happening in practise. How servile we must have seemed to them when they were dreaming up Irish Water. What a miscalculation it was.

The Sunday Independent fancies itself as an opinion former but it will prove utterly irrelevant in its attempts to shore up the establishment. The people are awake and nothing can match that power. If the Republic is shaking then it is because the citizens are making their voices heard and a republic belongs to the people not to the likes of Denis O'Brien or Tony O'Reilly. We know who the Sunday Independent serves and it sure as hell ain't us.
