    Death of Con Houlihan RIP

The death has been announced of Con Houlihan RIP. He was a great person and much admired. He had a wonderful turn of phrase, and was a great Kerryman. Along with Binchy and Vidal he has laid down the pen.

Just heard it. A great man. The loss of both Maeve Binchy and Con in the same week is truly sad.

There's a thread on this in sport, but it deserves a more prominent place. Fantastic sports writer who revolutionised Irish sports writing. GAA, soccer, horse racing, boxing, athletics all of them were graced by his wonderful prose. RIP.

He doesn't just belong to the GAA, but I would echo Tony Leen's suggestion that a minute's silence be held in Croker both today and tomorrow in his honour.

Very sad. Easily one of the best sports writers I've ever come across. I remember being greatly cheered up during an illness by a book of his called " Windfalls ". He had a unique turn of phrase and great courage, not afraid to put the boot into the " lads " at times. R.I.P.
