I would have thought no one could sit and watch someone like Brendan O'Connor and complain about it, it is what it is, it would be like watching Graham Norton but hating camp presenters.

You're missing the point we still have to pay the license fee irregardless of whether or not we watch RTE. However seeing as your a FF supporter I suppose you are quiet happy to see the "National Broadcaster" being used as the government of day's mouthpiece.

“The biggest problem Ireland has is RTE, the state broadcaster. David McWilliams can appear in a 100 theatres across the country and light up the stage with brilliant analysis and provocative insights into the financial mess Ireland finds itself. He can write books, host festivals and appear on dozens of TV shows. And all that work gets overshadowed by an act of omission by RTE who refuses to report on the financial rape of Ireland by crooks that should be in jail.

“Two years ago I was asked to appear on RTE. Leading up to the interview, while I was on hold waiting to be introduced, I was asked to give a summary of my views. I explained that an IMF bailout was coming if the country did not start to take these criminal bankers seriously. They reversed the invitation, hung up on me and have never called back. It’s a shame. When the end comes RTE will still be giving the farm reports and dandy stories of local cheese makers that could have been recorded 50 years ago and nobody will know the difference or care.

“Why anyone supports RTE is a mystery. Save your money and buy yourself a ticket out like so many are doing – due in large part – to RTE’s refusal to simply report the news in a responsible manner”
RTE and every other news station got it wrong on the economy.

I don't recall a single one predicting the collapse of Lehman Brothers.

It sounds to me as if Max has a grudge.

You don't pay for the service. You pay the state for the "privilege" of having a television and they pay RTE to tell you lies. Switch away and they whole scam breaks down.

Switch away and it allows their focus groups to determine who continues to watch and it will possibly shift their output to the requirements of that group.

What we need to do is stop watching and listening to RTE. If you pay the licence fee you may feel you are entitled to use the service but in reality you are the service and RTE provides you to their two paymasters. How hard would it be to ignore RTE all together? Think about what you would miss the most. I can't think of a single hardship I would endure if I never saw or heard anything from RTE again.

Boycott it and eventually both the advertisers and the government will give up on it and until they do you will have a better life by watching better stuff elsewhere.

It's not enough to avoid the licence fee. You must avoid the whole station.
The utter ignorance and mendacity of this is shocking.

What about Lyric, Radio1, 2FM and everything else supported by the fee?

If you cannot think of anything you would miss, then you have a barren life indeed.
God knows I think RTE current affairs is poor, but the station is so much more than that.

Other Voices, The View, Arena, radio documentaries, the current series on PHN's, there is a world of stuff on RTE that is outstanding.

Excellent point it does take more than simply refusing to pay the licence fee. If you allow yourself to listen or watch the rubbish they chew out you are as much a part of the problem as anyone.

You don't have to drag up that hackneyed and embarrassing Bertie soundbyte to make a point.

He is correct in saying that their was and is scant media coverage given on the "financial rape of Ireland by crooks that should be in jail".

Do you not think it is in stark contrast to Vincent Brownes brilliant questioning of the troika a couple of weeks ago?

By the way, doesn't Keiser broadcast on Press TV - a broadcasting company owned and managed by the Iranian Government? There are no independent broadcasters allowed in Iran and all output is Government-controlled.

Perhaps he should look at his own employers.

In the meantime, he has a nice gig, dressing up anti-US sentiment in cloaks of economic analysis and being paid well by a Government which only cares to see the US attacked.

He's a subtle variant on William Joyce.

I think Max is talking about RTE's news coverage not Arena or The View. I agree RTE do make some wonderful programmes and have exponentially improved in their quality over the years but their news sucks big time.

    Are you for real?

Asking a question he knew the guy wouldn't answer out of sensitivity to the host Govt and his own position?
    It was rude and uncouth.
