Ask not what your country can do for you, but what your country can do for a bank
As I watched that interview on the LLS last Friday I asked myself why is Dunphy on the show commenting on the state of the country? How qualified is he to make such astute judgements on the country?
Why not invite on an academic, politician, businessperson and a PAYE worker to give their views?
This was the LLS producers deciding to increase audience share by having a controversial figure talk about controversial issues.
And it worked. So, well done production staff.
The media and public was all talk about Dunphy's comments throughout the weekend, and here am I on Monday afternoon, also commenting.
I rarely watch the LLS because of Tubridy and his very poor production team.
His interview with Christine Bleakley was insipid.
Why not start by asking her how she got into television, then ask her how she got the gig on BBC's The One Show, and was she going out with her co-presenter of the show. When did she split up with yer man?
Then ask her why she thinks the ratings for ITV's Breakfast show failed dismally. What would she have done if she was producer?
Instead of allowing her to dismiss the failure by mouthing about having to get up at 3am each morning. Well, she was well paid for it I'm sure and she accepted the job in the first place, knowing she would have those early morning starts.
Ask her how did she hear her contract was not being renewed. Did she speak with the producers?
And then on to veteran footballer, Frank Lampard. Some cynics might suggest you are dating him because he is in the public eye as a top professional footballer, and that will help your own career. Care to comment?
But all we got was a soft, easy chat. I mean who is this girl from norhtern Ireland anyway. I never heard of her before.
And at last, before we all nearly fell asleep we get the Inside into Foster & Allen's tax affairs.
But not before they sing their meldoy a Bunch of whatever....
Again, insipid interview, no hard questions, all nod and a wink.
They each owe the revenue €3m plus because some guy, they thought would do their accounts, didn't.
Why didn't he ask them how much they were each worth given he said in his introduction to them that they had sold 20m albumns?
Or ask them are you skint if you pay this money to the revenue? Or have you made enough to cover the Revenue demand and still be able to live comfortably?
But no, more asslicking, doffing of the quiff in Tubridy's case.
The sooner they take him and the programme off air the better.
he's right , it is a dump .
you have irish natives with no job prospects while the minister for health James Reilly on 169,000 a year before adding in his expenses laps it up in his 18th century tax funded castle, his 300 euro luxury coffee machines , his 3500 euro projector , his 285 euro iphone 4 , his blackberry playbooks at 1239 euro etc etc etc.
what a dump this country has become .
although i do think dunphy is wrong that Michael o leary would be best suited to run the country . I think the last thing we need is more europhiles in office. This is our whole problem - europhilia.
say No to the EU , yes to Democracy , yes to the Nation State
There is far too much negativity in Ireland at the moment and the irony is that the sheer bloody hubris as a result of our supposed economic miracle, coming from some of the same people just 5 years ago, was equally insufferable. Do these people suffer some from some sort of bi-polar condition? The best thing this lot could do for the country is to take themselves off elsewhere and let the rest of the population get on with getting the country back on its feet.
Eamonn Dunphy, get on yer bike!
