    The European Parliament Report

I've regularly come across political anoraks, even die-hard ones, who don't even know this programme exists.

Sean O'Rourke on The Week in Politics almost laughed out loud when he announced it was the next programme on RTÉ tonight.

So I thought I'd remind everyone still posting, The European Parliament Report starts tonight at 12:20am. It's probably the least-watched programme on RTÉ. But someone has to keep tabs on what stew they're brewing in Strasbourg.
We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the internet, we know this is not true.

Okay, well here's the Spitting Image version of the European Parliament, followed by their account of the UN. From 8:10 mins onwards.

Ho ho, I was just watching it actually, and thinking how high minded and worthy it was, and that was why it was relegated to the dead of the night slot

Saw it Sunday night actually is good - with 80% of our laws coming from Brussels we deserve some public-accountability and transparency.

Did they actually ban dog and cat fur?

    Why?

This is why it's important to keep a tab on Strasbourg. This is a pretty nonsensical regulation, is it not?

    80% - that's a bit of a high figure.

House of Commons claims the figure of UK legislation originating from Europe is 9% - I'll go find the attributable in the morning, got it from a UK MEP a few weeks back.

Jacques Delors was quoted around the time of the Single European Act as predicting that 60% of social legislation would be EU derived but I have never bothered to check if he was right.

To more serious matters: What is this about an EU regulation on keeping tabbies in Strasbourg? We should be told. This is exactly the sort of thing ..... that and the bananas ....

European Parliament Report - just to remind you that your local MEP isn't actually dead.
