Are Independent News and Media doomed?

If I am reading this chart correctly:

Share Information - Independent News & Media

then INM's share price was once nearly 30 Euro and now it is 22 cent.

Give that they produce what for many are the two most hated ragsin Irish media and their fans are deserting them:

Fall in sales for all Irish Sunday and daily newspapers - The Irish Times - Fri, Aug 26, 2011Fall in sales for all Irish Sunday and daily newspapers - The Irish Times - Fri, Aug 26, 2011

can they go on like this?

If the malteser gets to conquer Ind News Media, the answer will be "definitely doomed".

With the Sindo down only 3.6%, it seems as though that particular blight on Irish society may have some way to go before its demise.

    Unfortunately.

The media are having a bad time of it.

Politics.ie has recently been targetted by one or more DDOS attacks.

Similarly, Independent News is being subjected to a continuous DROSS attack.
Their advisers have told them that the threat is not coming from the Internet.
    The source is internal.

In fairness it does provide some premium fire lighting material for the week. Sometimes I swear I can hear demons screaming up the chimney as I light it. Like opening the ark of the covnent in Indiana jones.
Sometimes the articles make my face melt too!

It's even worse than the charts suggest. There were rights issues on top of that where they tapped shareholders for a bit of dosh. Doomed isn't the word for it. Gone the same way as Fitzwilton, and Waterford Glass. Now, remind me just who was the super-duper businessman behind those?

William Martyn Murphy is probably turning in his grave.

I think there have been a number of share splits in that so it not come down from 30 to 22c per se. More like 6-7 to 22c up to the more recent deal with bondholders shares in exchange for relaxing their covenants. I would expect more shares to be issued to subordinate bondholders in exchange for their bonds in the near future. Denis O'Brien's stake has gone from 500million to circa 30million alone.

Can it survive? Ultimately it is tied to the Irish economy. If Ireland continues to stagnant it is screwed but it has at least given itself a shot at survival in cutting the deadwood of the Tribune and UK Independent.
