RTE to cut pay on top earners

Great news from RTE. The Director of RTE has said that the earnings of top 'talent' in RTE will be cut by 30% in the next two years. He feels that this may result in the loss of some of said 'talent' to competitor but in a rare moment of common sense pointed out they would be replaced.

Pesonaly I'm delighted. RTE is a money hole when it comes to paying it's 'talent'. Who cares if numpties like Kenny or Turbidy go to TV3. It will be yet another reason not to watch TV3 and RTE will start looking for fresh talent, that's talent without the inverted commas.

This is a step in the right direction.

The director general of RTÉ has conceded that the company could lose some of its top names to competitors as a result of pay cuts.

Why only 30%? This should have been done in 2008 when the country went bust but instead, they got as much as the could from the taxpayer. RTE is not the only orgaisation that should be doing this, it should be done in all public service jobs to the very high earners.

Apparently the BBC do pay much better than the RTE

But then the BBC has touched almost all parts of the globe while RTE has only touched Montrose and Washington

Great news. They could just cut them altogether.

Doubt if anyone will go to TV3 as it would probably mean a futher paycut.

This idea about them going to competitors has always been a red herring, they have nowhere to go.

Nice try lads, but too little too late I'm afraid,

Rte has been exposed for what it is, it will be either privatised or shut by 2015, let's see what the salaries are like when the so called stars have to actually earn the money that they are paid, instead of having it extorted from the people!

Why are we having a referendum on judges pay and not one on rte pay?

How about a referendum to do away with all state support for rte, no exchequer funds, no licence fee, rte sinks or swims like the rest of us, wonder how that vote would go?

I'm in favour of a state broadcaster and think they do some good work. Radio 1 is great as is RnaG but I feel it's too little to save RTE and would be in favour of getting rid of it.

RTE has for far too long been a haven for defunct Billy Barrie Kids and their ilk. A sharp dose of reality is what's needed. Even if the overpaid balast in RTE did go to TV3 (assuming the people at TV3 aren't astute enough to recognise how crap they are) they will have to come up with the goods or they will be dropped.
