Liveline's free coverage for Martin McGuinnes today

Martin McGuinness and Sinn Féin must be delighted with the 'free' coverage he got on Joe Duffy's Liveline programme today.

He received positive and negative support from callers - all free publicity for him.

I wonder was this programme approach in breach of Broadcasting Act guidelines.

Will the other candidates seek similar coverage from Liveline in the coming days and weeks?

Today's Joe Duffy show was a disgrace - a low even for RTE. Joe Duffy exploiting peoples's grief to try damage Martin mcGuinness - result failure! I'm actually amazed the people who are considering voting for MMcG.

It might have been free, but McG got a savaging via people calling in. Also, Joe Duffy did a good job on exposing Finian McGraths hypocrisy. That alleged truism about no such thing as bad publicity is a myth.

Joe Duffy: "I for one would like to welcome our new overlords...."

Edit: Clearly I did not hear the show - seems, base on posts here, like McGuinness walked into a reality buzzsaw.

From what I heard of it Joe Duffy was anything but impartial and balanced.

His hatred for SF/IRA shone through, don't disagree with him, but the requirement to show balance was clearly not met

Joe is paid to be impartial. He was totally biased today. Disgraceful.

I didn't hear any of the show, but everybody brace yourselves for the media onslaught especially RTE. Did anybody see The Week In Politics lastnight on RTE, Sean O'Rourke wasted a huge chunk of the show asking the same question to a Sinn Fein TD, getting the same answer over and over again.

Eventually after ten minutes he left it, and Peadar Tobin, I think that was the SF TD, made a brief counter comment to Sherlock of Labour about Martin McGuinness and straight away in a sly bitchy way, O'Rourke interjected, I thought that would be Adams now.

I hope for goodness sake that we don't have to put up with the repeated rhetoric from RTE, very transparent hatred of SF from RTE during the campaign. As Noel Whelan said on drive time last week, any male under 35, see a different image to Sinn Fein as the older generation.

Anyway, Pat Kenny, Miriam, Sean O'Rourke or any stand ins for primt-time, try not have such an obvious RTE agenda against Martin McGuinness in the campaign, it gets very boring after ten minutes when an RTE head doesn't get the answer he or she wants from Sinn Fein, broken record, change the tune.

Joe DuFFy is never impartial when it comes to politics. He is a bit of a FFer at heart. Wonder did he have the usual rent a mob of FF hacks calling in.

want to listen to it online but life is short and listening to Joe is a poor use of time

All the bile, hatred and resentment of McGuinness will backfire....it will appeal to all the haters, but they will be left scratching their heads when this is all said and done.....bring it on........Marty for Pres.............................
