I see Tubs was on promoting his cousin's charity.

GOAL has shifted from a family business to a charity running into the sands as the failed politician struggles to make it relevant.

Turgidy went on his gap week to Africa to patronise the natives as this year he isn't broadcasting on BBC Radio 2.
How the Hell he got that gig is beyond me.
However, they copped on & he hasn't got it any more.

To ingratiate himself with the natives he penned a cut & paste book about the Irish in Britain.

It bears no relation to the reality of the Irish in Britain - read Frank Connolly's book about Tom Gilmartin, read the books about the construction fellas by Ultan Colwley, read Irish Post articles. Read especially "Irish London during the Troubles" by Seán Sorohan, published by the Irish Academic Press.

Do not read some cut & paste about Arthur Wellesley, Richard Harris & Terry Wogan sold by WH Smiths in their monopolies at the main airports. It is as far from the reality of the Irish in Britain as a trip on a gondola in a Las Vegas casino is from Italy.

Amazing how the people who flee for their lives to Ireland, suddenly find their home countries safe enough to travel back to on holidays once they get the auld Irish passport sorted out
Your second limb. Are you serious? He actually said that?
    Unbelievable. Literally unbelievable.

Let's hope it sells as well as his equally scholarly tome on the Dead Kennedy's.

I don't think the book run was very extensive.

    I googled it using google.uk

    Which threw up this gem:

    Tubridy

"Where Ryan Tubridy is of interest though is in the few revealing lines that this book offers, alongside the reality of his own background.

In keeping with the tone of the book, Tubridy writes of a lunch date with Terry Wogan and of travelling in Wogan’s chauffeur-driven Bentley.

Over lunch Terry Wogan, the self-styled master of UK-friendly Irish Blarney, states that the “Irish middle-classes, to which I belong, have always aspired to being British”. Now who would have thought it? Out of the mouth of Terry Wogan via the pen of Ryan Tubridy, one of Ireland’s little secrets slips out."

"Isn’t it time, Ryan, that we talked about our own self-serving elite?"

No homeless person though. Marion would have had to put the plastic covers back on the couch first.

Homelessness. One of those discussions that go round and round ...
Just once or twice what-might-be-the-real-problem hove into sight. That the rental market is outrageously speculative-exploitative and that the government is in the landlords' pockets (and largely consists of landlords).
But all you get to hear is "The landlords can't be blamed, they're under pressure from the banks".
And the government has been that bit "short-sighted".
That's as near as the real issues get to being broached.
And with that the discussion sets off again, round and round in circles ...
p.s. Oh yes, and the solution in the immediate?
What do you know? "Increase the rent allowance ..."
