RTE exploits the failings of minors in "The School" documentary

This programme currently being shown on RTE called "The School" shows live footage of minors being personally berated and ticked off by bullying and hectoring teachers.

This is being done by a State School and is really just another form of abuse of children.

The unfortunate schoolkids who deviate are exposed to endless haranguing and it is wrong that this be fed up to the viewing public as some form of entertainment.

It is doubly wrong in that inevitably certain children will be targeted in the Dunboyne area for ridicule as a consequence.

I wonder were parents consulted for their permission on this this as in my opinion this programme breaches normal confidential rules concerning the relationship between school ,pupil ,and parent.

Would any parent in their sane mind allow their kids failings to be exposed to the whole nation in this manner.

The actual school itself St Peters in Dunboyne comes over as being run on rather petty
lines over dress codes and condescending teachers who constantly berate their
    students

Maybe this is just another example of state sponsored irresponsibility by out of control teachers.

Agree with you on the substantive point, the Board of Management were mad to allow this,

A strange programme indeed, I don't know what the point of it is.

I didn't watch it tonight, saw last weeks episode. The clip of Darren Sutherland advising the pupils on their future was odd.

I cannot understand how parents, management or teachers allowed it or why anyone thought it would make good television.

The point of this programme is to show this school up as being uber hip modern and open.

The resultant portrait displays a condescending and patronising teaching regime irresponsibly exploiting the failings of vulnerable schoolkids for public tv.

The unfortunate schoolkid victims of this exploitation are clearly unaware of the wider effects such exposure may have on their lives.

    I think it's a very good progam!

To me it seems very balanced between teachers and students and gives them both an opportunity to put their points accross. In fact I now have a far better respect for teachers and the difficulties they experience daily. It also showed several teachers as being very caring and showing a "tough love" for their students.

The only thing that annoyed me was the teacher who put the plug in about Private Sector workers regarding pay cuts!. it was a bit of a let down to an otherwise very good program.

The difficulties experienced in disadvantaged schools are on another level to this. If you think that anything in this programme represent 'difficulties,' then it would just re-enforce my belief that the vast majority of people don't have a clue what's going on in disadvantaged schools.

Sorry, I'm not having a go at you. I work in a city centre disadvantaged school. Regularly perusing this site, the level of misunderstanding and ignorance relating to my job astounds me. If a similar programme was done in my school, posters could see what real difficulties are. The school in this programme seems to be a well-run, rounded school catering for students from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds.

How you got this from the programme is very strange. The only people I saw doing the giving out were Principal and Vice Principal - non-teaching management. Out of control teachers? Hilarious.

So you think its ok for a young adolescent kid to have his personal defects wrt to how he relates to the school system broadcast to the nation and recorded for posterity.?

Not just that but have it broadcast to his entire wider social community.

Do you call that responsible behaviour by the teachers who colluded in this appalling invasion of the privacy that should normally occur in such matters?

Teachers? The decision for this programme would have come from the Board of Management, including representatives of management, parents and teachers. Get a grip. You don't know what you're on about
