Brian Lenihan has cancer - TV3 News

The minister has a malignant pancreatic tumor, according to TV3 News. News just breaking.

Shocking, horrifying news. My heart goes out to him. He is personally liked in politics as a good man.

That's terrible, hope it was caught in time, God willing he recovers to full health. Mary O'Rourke said he was fine on the radio a couple of days ago, hopefully that means he can be effectively treated...

That is awful news. This must be a very worrying time for himself and his family and friends. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Terrible news for Lenihan and his family.

TV3's retrospective of his political "achievements" as Minister for Finance left a sour taste in my mouth though - talk about sugarcoating NAMA.

It is truly horrific news. Whatever people think about his decisions (and that isn't relevant here), he is genuinely liked and popular. It is so horrifying. My heart goes out to him, his wife and children. The next months are going to be terrible for the family. I doubt if he will be in a position to remain on in his post simply because the last thing he will need is the stress of that job while battling this horrifying illness.

I hope he recovers and doesn't suffer too much.

If this is true (I hope not) then on a personel level I feel sorry for the man and his family

    - Cancer has struck my own family so I know the trauma involved.

    On a political/economic level - we're fcucked now....

Just to change the story slightly, I thought TV3's coverage was both bad and intrusive.

Someone would want to give Ursula Halligan some lessons on speaking to camera, she was appalling.

It's too soon to break news like this - their justification was to allow the family privacy during Christmas. If that's the case why not wait another two days?

    Get well soon.
