Yes they have the balls to tackle the PS, but surely instead of attacking Nurses on 35,000 per year they should be reducing their own allowances and wages aswell as the highly paid in the Public Service on over 150,000 per year?

Not to mention people like Pat Kenny etc.

If they started at the top and hit the rich then I dont think anyone would argue. But the way FF are doing it is to hurt people at the bottom and middle.

Have you noticed that the Irish State is de-facto bankrupt?

so you propose to continue to borrow more right so overpaid public sector workers can continue to live a life of luxury while private sector workers who pay for the public service have their jobs and pay hammered?

Yes I have noticed that the State is bankrupt. Funny though, the Govt that runs the State has paid out 11 billion euros to cover only a fraction of the reckless and lost gambles made by 3 banks, as well as a 440 billlion State guarantee of 6 banks' deposits (ok) and liabilities (criminal) which has forced the interest rate we pay for national loans thru the roof, with the leader of that govt promising that he will write "whatever cheques necessary" to keep those banks paying back their foreign bondholders and propping up their shareholders (utterly failed mind) and has given a State guarantee. These "whatever cheques necessary" presumably include the 54 billion cash for trash that is NAMA, which sensible, non-vested interested economists and others whose opinions I value claim will lose between 12 and 20 billion euros. So, yes, the State is bankrupt, but not so bankrupt that it can de facto hand over 64 billion and ram up real interest rates for the financially crippled citizens of this country.

So we shouldn't be borrowing this money to bail banks, their shareholders and esp their bondholders. I would also cut the maximum wage in the public service to 120K. However, I feel that cutting the pay of those who spend a greater proportion of their pay (ie those earning between 15 and 50K) will lead to a deflationary crash that will wipe out far more private sector SMEs, forcing even more people on the dole, even more mortage defaults that will end up in bank bail outs and MOST IMPORTANTLY, an even greater deficit. It's a vicious circle, as this article/podcast by a citibank economist explains.....

I caught the tail-end of the AGSI(?) rep's contribution outside the Dept.of Justice picket.
He was talking about the non use of mobile phones by Gardaí in their job.The mobiles are personal property.
Did anyone catch whether he said that such non use was under consideration, for further industrial action.
Or,was it part of today's?

For future use. He said they wouldnt use the blue flu excuse to protest, so they would remove the use of mobile phones as the garda radio`s are all broke so they use their own mobiles.
