    Would be an outside contractor. But he would have bid at an hourly rate for 37.5 hours a week, 48 weeks a year thus saving the institution putting every job out to tender. Much, much cheaper.

    I think this will either fizzle out or something seriously big will happen and all "sectors" from parents of sick children to unemployed, disabled, pensioners as well as the employed facing cuts or sackings will link together and there'll be a complete nationwide shut down. It's hard to say but the cynic in me (liek Vincent) thinks it'll fizzle out. The govt. let the strike go ahead to let them expel some energy thinking it'll disperse the agitation and agression and anger and the union leadership let it go ahead to hint at the govt. that they were kinda serious.

    I suspect there'll be the most pitiful deal agreed on by next week and the strike will be off and the workers will either get even angrier or retreat to the fatalism of defeatism.
