Abolition or massive reduction of the whip is a good idea.

Totally agree. I know we rag on them a lot, but if we could get something approaching the freedom of the US senate we'd be doing well.

why doesn't Browne ask intelligent questions

have been watching this show for a while now and it seems to me that Browne just asks moronic questions. Browne takes an issue, finds one little quirky aspect of it, pretends it is the most important thing ever, then pretends he is the only one who has come up with it and then goes on about it over and over and starts going crazy with people when they dismiss it for the daftness that it is. his other tactic is to take what someone has done, and then come with an alternative and repeatedly ask why didn't person A do B instead of C - he then thinks he is the only one who has come with this idea too.
so for example he asks Paschal why did Enda not call for the abolition of the dail, the other day he asked a Labour TD why didn't Eamon Gilmore allow John O'Donoghue to go before a committee such as PAC to explain his expenses issue, he asked this over and over when the answer was staring him in the face, - it wasn't an option, it was only ever an option in Browne land. - for a journalist of Browne's obvious intelligent and talent wouldn't it be great if he actually asked good quesions - And finally - why has he never learned to tuck the back of his tie into the loop on the reverse of the front piece?
