"No real debate about the Lisbon Treaty could happen. This was a deliberate decision"

I'll probably have to bring this to Madam's attention too lest it go unreported.

Belgium's newly appointed EU Commissioner Karel de Gucht in response to a question posed by European Conservative and Reformist Group MEP Nirj Deva

"Whilst the original Constitutional Treaty was technical, and correct, people didn’t read the Lisbon Treaty, they didn’t understand the first word about it. No real debate about the Lisbon Treaty could happen. This was a deliberate decision of the European Council".

Once again, He3, a telling silence.

They would rather peck though minutia of FT's posts than deal with the substantive issues.

I could be wrong, but I believe there's been a pretty vigorous and ongoing debate about the Treaty of Lisbon in Ireland.

You are wrong. There is a debate but it's reluctant and one sided. Few statements from the yes organisations have any basis in the Lisbon Treaty and most are designed to make this referendum appear as though it is about Ireland's membership of the EU.
