Irish Times questions Irish people's sanity - again.

Is there a full moon at the moment?

Having asked us famously were we losing our minds the time of the vote last year, the Irish Times is at it again.

In a glorious rant worthy of the Animal Farm Daily, Patsy McGarry lets fly:

Then it was Joe Higgins’s turn on Tuesday. He described the Lisbon Treaty as a “profoundly undemocratic” document. Okay, so it has already been approved by 85 per cent of directly elected representatives across the EU, but what do they know about democracy?

They should talk to Joe. He can tell them about democracy. He has been to Cuba.

Sometimes it seems as if Joe and his friends on the outer edges of the left would prefer if Ireland became the Cuba or North Korea of Europe. Yes, we should model ourselves on two of the largest open-air prisons for ordinary people in the world. Then maybe we have been ahead of those countries. Was it not George Bernard Shaw who once described this island as “the largest open-air lunatic asylum in the world”?

We proved that in last year’s Lisbon vote.

    Sometimes you can but wonder.

Reeks of elitism. The elites think they have a right to tell us how to think. And heaven forfend we should dare to take a contrary view. What was it Edmund Burke said about "the swinish multitude"? Because it sure feels like those days again.

I am a bit young to be able to say FT, but it certainly is very strange conduct.

Can the yes camp keep this incessant drivel going on a daily basis for 42 days more is the question?

I hope and presume so ... the more they keep it up the greater the numbers becoming disaffected with such drivel and acting accordingly

FT - the second Lisbon referendum without doubt will be passed. You should try to bring yourself to terms with this as soon as possible, otherwise, you're gonna give yourself a serious hernia!!!

Oh for shame. I mean - what is the world coming to? A newspaper in an opinion column publishes an opinion.

The No side on this site are becoming more and more of a joke. They cannot tolerate anyone expressing an opinion anywhere that doesn't represent their own opinions.

It used to be said that liberals were the most illiberal when it came to allowing people disagree with them. But now the self-proclaimed legions of freedom on the No side go into a strop everytime anyone dares disagree with them or express an opinion they don't approve of.

    Utterly bizarre.

Does Patsy McGarry have a permanent, pensionable job with the Irish Times? I mean, is he forced to churn out stuff week in, week out? Must get boring towing the official line after a couple of decades.

How are the elites being elitist in wanting to open up the EU and make it more democratic ?
I thought that elites hugged things to their selfish bosoms?

    And as for Patsy McGarry

    Elitist?

    Larf? I nearly shat!

    Good evening Tommy.

Should I not, in your view, express an opinion on this? Are you a liberal yourself by any chance?
