That decsion is only a solemn agreement. The 2/3rds commission is only due in 2014 so there is 5 years for fudging. We can use our veto under nice to ensure we are a long long way down the list on the rotation mechanism.

it was the last treaty we had before lisbon !
and my point is they LIED then, TWICE, they said catagorically that we wouldnt lose our comissioner, indeed dick roche again went around calling people who said we would scurrilous xenophopes and spouting "untruths " - just like he is now again on matters like neutrality and tax and just like then he's misleading the public while NONE of the oppostion leaders are correcting him.
. whats to stop them lying now about how the comissioner is delt with under lisbon?
next year we could be hearing the same excuses to explain why weve lost it under lisbon that your using now about nice with a "did ya read the thing ?" attitude thrown in by roche for good measure.
the elephant in the room on lisbon is IMO the main reason it fell was because of the lies in NICE.
put simply, the public dont trust the big three anymore on matters like this and rightly so.
The enemy of my enemy is the enemy of my enemy. There are lies, damn lies and Fine Gael confusions. "I don't understand." Alan "it's only 79 punts" Shatter
stop trying to play the player instead of the ball.
you KNOW the point im trying to make. i actuallly AGREE with your point on NICE.
its why i vote NO on it twice.
my point ,again, is that NONE of the big three parties SAID it.
not FF , not FG , and not LAB.
in fact they campaigned to the opposite. do you dispute that?
So just your traditional "26 other countries ganging up on Ireland" conspiracy theory again, in other words.
No it's not. The 2/3rds Commission was agreed unanimously, and under the terms of Nice that agreed Commission must come into force in the first Commission after 2004 - i.e 2009.The 2/3rds commission is only due in 2014 so there is 5 years for fudging.
No, the agreement already unanimously reached had Ireland among the first 9 countries to lose a Commissioner. So if Lisbon isn't ratified, the 2009 Commission will have 18 members, and Ireland won't be one of them.We can use our veto under nice to ensure we are a long long way down the list on the rotation mechanism.
"Elite - a small superior group; esp one that has a power out of proportion to its size." (Oxford English Dictionary)
The majority cannot therefore be the elite.
Decisions can be changed. The promise to change it if Lisbon is passed demonstrates that.
