    Lisbon will be last referendum

Well on what possible grounds could a referendum on another EU treaty be required. The legislation is so far reaching that i cannot see any grounds for future referenda. Can anyone?

Well we wont get a vote next time, will we?

All future refferenda will be automatically passed without a vote, like the other EU members on Lisbon.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Madame Kennedy to be made Supreme Imperator of Europe for services rendered, in this new role she will be allowed to jail 1,000,000 pesky dissidents of her choosing...(that will require a referendum)

This is more than likely correct. So now you can start to see the importance of getting a Yes returned for the second Lisbon vote.

So Crotty will be reversed, will it?

Er, yes, lots, thanks. The 'common defence' is the most obvious example, but unless you mean that the member states don't plan on increasing the EU's competences ever again, then we would obviously have a referendum. Do you even know why we have referendums, eurosceptic?

Will Croatia be able to join without a new treaty?

They could actually probably get this treaty ratified without a referendum also, but they've decide to "lead" public opinion to the result they want!

I can plenty - Article 46 of the Lisbon Treaty implicitly allows for this.

In a way it will make it far harder for any more changes to be made vis a vis a "Federal" Europe as any further changes will be taken in isolation and it will be very clear what we are voting on - this is the last everything and the kitchen sink monster of a treaty.

Anything that requires our consitution to be amended will require a referendum - that includes anything to do with Military alliances etc etc as Art 9 of the Irish consitution would have to be amended - taxation as the sole power to set direct taxation is vested wholly within in the Irish State and would require the consitution to be amended , abortion etc etc - there are tons of things that might could if happen in the future , in particular any items on the EU agenda that are solely decided by consensus and unanimity (ie the vast vast majority of the EUs work) and that a proposal may be put forward to change one of these to qualified majority - that would require a referendum here if it impinges on our constitution.

Sorry Eurosceptic - I know you are fighting hard for your beliefs here - but the above statement shows a complete ignorance of what the Lisbon Treaty actually contains - you would have been better off not saying anything or go and have a proper read of bunreacht Na hEireann as to what we delegate our elected representatives to legislate on our behalf and what we dont.

    Quelle surprise

You arent related to Future Taoiseach by any chance? - cos you sound like a mirror reflection of the chap - even down to the way you structure your sentences and the immediate grasp for O.T.T language and hyperbole.

Maybe its just me - but any thread you are engaged in - FT is nowhere to be seen - on issues that he'd normally be over like a dung beetle on Horse sh^te.

Or maybe its just a total co-incidence!
