The "EU" dont speak on my behalf!!!

has anyone else noticed that the EU are now taking it upon themselves to issue statements on Foriegn affairs in the name of all 27 member states...this is a creeping in of the eventual goal of a united states of Europe.....something i will never accept I am an Irish man first above all else.

does anyone else notice this carry on and what are your feelings on the EU`s attempts at trying to kill any sense of nationality or cultural uniqueness whitin Europe.

Non sequiturs. But come on, be consistent and advocate withdrawal from the UN. It makes pronouncements on controversial cultural matters all the time that would upset the little Irelanders that enrich this site so much.

Really. I live for a few months each year in France. They seem to be remaining quite stubbornly French! For example.

Some idiot threw a similar tantrum a while ago after reading that the EU had condemned the Iranian election outcome. A bit of research quickly revealed that the EU had not issued any such statement, but what the media were referring to was the comments of the foreign ministers of several member states of the EU speaking on behalf of their respective nations.

So maybe IrishTom can back up his claims by posting links to evidence of the EU actually making such statements, and when it is established that the EU actually does centrally make foreign policy pronouncements on behalf of its member states without their consent, then we can discuss whether or not it should.

See the European Union's Common Foreign & Security Policy... all decisions are made on a consensus basis by the National Governments through either the European Council or the Council of Ministers meaning that the Irish Government agree with the stance therefore the EU can speak on your behalf as an Irish citizen.
