The element of the left which is at best lukewarm about democracy would be sympathetic to Lisbon II, in that with the collapse of the USSR and the conversion of the People's Republic of China to a Wild West style capitalist economy, they tend to lack supporting cases in favor of a communist command economy economic model and therefor would see opportunities in Lisbon II, for introducing across the board nationalization of industry, the collectivization of farming, taking young children away from their parents and raising them in boarding school nurseries and such like and so forth.

It'll pass unless something else massive intervenes.

Events, dear boy, events. Mind you it'd want to be one boy of an event.
A vote Yes to Lisbon II is only inevitable if people will vote Yes in a majority to a forthcoming referendum on Lisbon II. If Irish people feel that, they should surrender their democratic rights and freedoms to the European Union for a possible short term financial advantage, with a medium to long term threat that, they or their family or their children or their friends or their work colleagues, might be arrested, put against a wall and shot dead for no other reason than an official duly authorized by the European Union to do so, felt like arresting them, putting them up against a wall and shooting them, they should vote Yes to Lisbon II.

I missed the bit in the Treaty that allows for summary execution of citizens; can you point it out to me?

And during the debates where abortion, tax, Defence, conscrption et al were brought into the debate, why didnt anyone mention summary execution - I mean, that probably would have affeted my vote if someone told me about. Now Im still not sure what way I would have voted but it DEFINITLEY would have affected my vote.......

Do you know what the Lisbon II treaty means, does anybody know what the Lisbon II treaty means? Has a European Government put innocent people including men, women, children, pregnant women and babies in to cattle wagons brought them to concentration camps and gassed them?

You were supposed to miss it, that's the point.

Notice how the right-wing No side like Adrian, who claim that the Lisbon Treaty will turn Europe into a soviet gulag (in Coir/Libertas' case, where women are forcibly aborted, then married to a lesbian and put into the European Army), are never contradicted by the hard-left No side, who in turn claim that the Lisbon Treaty will turn Europe into a free-for-all neo-liberal superstate.

This divide in the No side just shows up how ludicrous their claims are, which is why in turn they try not to draw too much attention to their wild inconsistencies.

Ganely made the NO vote. Nobody in this country apart from the cafe liberals and the smoked salmon socialists thinks a bunch of commies like Joe "working people" Higgins have snowball's chance in hell of leading any campaign. If people see the loony left on their TV screens it'll guarantee a YES vote. If you think the EU is neo-liberal then you like Higgins, Begg, De Unionz and asorted other left wing malcontents haven't a sccoby doo what neo-liberal means.

    No, didnt think so.

Socialists: great for telling us the world is gone to hell in a hand-basket; God-awful at doing anything constructive to repair it.
