I started a thread on this on Sunday.

The Irish Times reported this today too:
Walesa will urge Irish to support Lisbon - The Irish Times - Tue, May 26, 2009
Mr Walesa has spoken at events in Madrid and Rome organised by Libertas, which rejects the treaty.
However, the co-founder of the Solidarity trade union said his readiness to listen to Libertas positions should not be mistaken for agreement.
“I don’t agree with Libertas. I’m just giving them my point of view,” he said. “I’m ready to go to Ireland, speaking out alone or alongside Ganley, to say ‘My dear Irish people, back this treaty’.”
Correct me if I am wrong here, but Libertas rightly called for a No to the flawed first Lisbon Treaty which undermined Ireland's position in Europe.
They haven't even decided which way they will campaign on the second one.
So again to say Walesa has snubbed Libertas is fiction. Not that he was a member of Libertas in the first place.
The lies from the cosy cartel grow in magnitude and number by the day. Can we trust these people on anything?
A pity that lech will endorse the treaty but life goes on.
Mr Walensa deserves a great deal of respect for standing up to Communist tyranny in Poland but I think people of his generation and his background, because he suffered at the hands of the Soviet Union and saw the West as a symbol of Freedom, are sometimes naive about how nasty Western European politics can be. The problem with signing up to Giscard's European Constitution, is that it is such a complicated document, I do not believe even a top flight constitutional lawyer could know what it is about. Whilst Mr Walensa can make the point of signing up to the Constitution and then arguing from within, the risk is after having signed up the constitution one's arguments from within might be ignored and if one tries to get out of the European Union then, CNN might end up broadcasting pictures of French paratroopers occupying the Irish Parliament Dail Eireann on behalf of the European Union and installing an EU approved caretaker administration.

Having read the full article i find a curious contradiction. He says he agrees with libertas that this is a bad treaty but like toponalek he is still willing to go along with it.
I think AW has hit the nail on the head. Decades of communist oppression have led to a rose tinted view of western european politics. Much like europe was sold to us as a remedy to british domination. I think he is very naive to think that the kind of internal reforms he wants to take place, can take place once all the aces have been handed over.
Further to this i think lech has made himself ridiculous in that he is going to argue. This is crap but you should still vote for it!
He obviously agreed to do the Libertas gig in Rome without realising how much damage he was doing to his credibility by being associated with Libertas.
