    Libertas - exagerrated claims?

    Got this from Libertas:

    The Libertas website is the most visited political website in Europe,
    according to figures just released today. The website is receiving 40,000
    hits per day, easily outstripping its rivals around Europe.

    Commenting on the news, Libertas Leader Declan Ganley said:

    "While the EU fritters away millions of taxpayers' money on its own
    "information" websites and online campaigns, the Libertas campaign is
    reaching an unprecedented number of voters across Europe, and this will only
    grow in the weeks to come.
    Seemed a bit of a claim to me, so I went to Alexa and checked. Turns out its a bit of a funny claim. What Alexa actually says:

    libertas.eu = 247,692th most popular site

    But it does say political site, so I compared it to a couple of other;

    labour.org.uk = 240,539th most popular site
    conservativehome.blogs.com =110,169th most popular site
    europa.eu =1,254th most popular site (that's the EU site they're on about)

    More bollocks from Liebertas?

    Even if their claims are true, it proves nothing. I visited the site a couple of times today to check if they'd updated their 'Policies' section* yet.

    Doesn't make me a Libertas supporter though.

    *No they haven't. This message is still there, weeks after it was put up:

    The Libertas programme for a better Europe will be published on this site in the coming weeks.

    If that's a genuine Libertas press release, that's a little bit sad - sort of a "mine is bigger than yours" willy-waving exercise. Unless, of course, the point is to make a claim about how much money the EU "wastes" on information websites - which, given the amount Libertas themselves are obviously spending on all their ads etc, is an equally silly claim - isn't Libertas reputedly spending €75m on their campaign? All sourced, of course, from 'donations'.
    Never let the best be the enemy of the good.
