No, our history has not escaped me and its dissapointing that your post has resorted to stereotyping and name calling.

I am not disputing the great, selfless achievements of our fore-fathers in securing independance from foreign rule, in fact I am in awe of them. However, we have now had a go at it and have proven that we continue to put the likes of Charlie and Bertie back in office to run their cosy little cartels while our kids freeze in damp, rat infested 150 year old school buildings, we have 430,000 people out of work and our granny's lie on hospital trolleys in corridoors for days on end......so we are obviously unable to run the show even half credibly...Ive lived and travelled across Europe and even though some of the politicians there are corrupt (couldnt be half as much as ours though)..they still have something to show for their weeks work and Income tax in the form of decent public services, transport systems, schools, hospitals...etc!!!!

I'm saying that its time to call a spade a spade and admit our failings as an electorate and as our political system and ethos. I dont see it changing so thats why Im sayig bring on Brussels!

Entire EU cabinet convicted criminals,as opposed to minor civil law infractions?Criminals should be barred from positions like that.

On the other hand most of our cabinet are not convicts, which shows the Garda Siochana are simply not up to the job.

FF are gone sooner or later and we will have to pick up the pieces whether it's 2 months, 1 year or 2. They have already banked their ill gotten gains, we just have to say 'never again' and mean it this time!
I'd rather be picking up the pieces in 2 months rather than 2 years, 2 years can do untold damage to the country and you can bet that Brussles will become the new straw man, who will be blamed then? ..... the voters.

Also self defeatist drivel? I have never voted for FF and I don't identify with them or their culture in any way, shape or form, they are nothing to do with me or my life apart from calling the shots in the place I live. People in Brussels, or anywhere for that matter, are no more foreign to me than John O'Donohoe, Bertie, Mary Couglan etc. or their buddies in FAS, Anglo and the rest.

Nonsense. At least we can remove our incompetent government.

Are you aware that the EU Justice Commissioner was pardoned by President Chirac for an embezzlement conviction prior to appointment as a Commissioner? Look what happened to Spain since they voted yes - unemployment doubled 18% - the highest in the EU. And now there's news that industrial output has fallen for the 19th month in a row.

There is no cause and effect there, that is pure voodoo and you know it. The reason Spain is fvcked in because they bet everything on property, same reason we are.

FF and their 'colleagues' in power in France Italy Germany and the UK understand each other perfectly.

You may not have realised it, or intended it, but you voted for their culture this morning.

Bring on Brussels and all its Beurocracy and the germans I say!!! Ive lived there and they have a proper Public Transport System and Modern Schools without damp and rats and nobody waiting on trolleys in their A&E's !

Would the fact that ff have been in power for all but 2 of the last 22 years have anything to do with our useless Goverment?

And, aside from that. You think if the lisbon treaty was passed the Germans would come in and Govern us?.

One last thought. Why do all the "I'm voting YES" threads always seem like they are screaming?

Using a bit of a broad brush there, FT, blaming the EU for all of Spain's woes and the fact that they voted "yes".

I suspect that a lot of Spain's economic plight is down to domestic political incompetence, the sort of mind-numbing stupidity, particularly in relation to property, that our retarded government here specialise in. There are, after all, gruesome similarities between their property bubble and our own.
