New Czech eurosceptic party rules out adopting the LIbertas brand

A NEW political party dedicated to campaigning against the Lisbon Treaty in the Czech Republic will be launched today by close associates of Czech president Vaclav Klaus.

But in a blow to the pan-European ambitions of Declan Ganley, its founder Petr Mach has ruled out adopting the Libertas brand to compete in the European elections.

Well libertas are a eurocritical party concerned with the detail rather than the broad concept. Eurosceptics are opposed to the broad concept.

I've always wondered why eurocritical or eurosceptic politicans in other countries would suddenly surrender to Mr Ganley and run under his Liberatas banner when they have their own parties. These politicans have been around politics alot longer than Ganley and he just walks in and expects these established politicans(even if you dont agree with their politics) to drop ship and follow him because he 'won' the No vote. I personally find it a bit hard to stomach and shows the arrogance Ganley has to his cause.

Ganley wants to piggyback on the work of these politicans by having Libertas as the umbella name for the parties in which they work. It gives the imagine that his Libertas is an EU wide party.

Liking his spin on the failure of the talks, why did he open negotiations with the Czech guy in the first place if he was a known eurosceptic which Ganley claims he and Liberatas are not. Think the Czech was right when he said Ganley doesnt understand the difference between starting a business and a party. Under a business, Ganley might be in control, but under a party, he's not. That i think is the centre of the failure.

Liberatas is a one man show and his footsoliders are just being used to build his ego up.

Ganley seems to be discovering that the reason there are no pan-european parties is not because no-one thought of it before him.

Mr Mach, who is an economist and close associate of Mr Klaus, said he thought Mr Ganley would struggle to attract candidates to set up Libertas in the Czech Republic, as well as votes, because the anti-Lisbon political space was now filled. But he said his party would be willing to co-operate with any Libertas MEPs elected to the European Parliament in other EU states to oppose the Lisbon Treaty following the European elections in June...A recent opinion poll commissioned by Czech public television found that a new party connected to Libertas, and which campaigned against Lisbon, could attract up to 22 per cent of the vote in the upcoming elections.
In that context this should be seen as a sign that there is a market in the Czech republic and other EU states for a party-platform opposing Lisbon. And in any case, Petr Mach has said his Free Citizens Party may enter a loose alliance with Libertas in the European Parliament. I don't really see this as a blow.

Eurosceptic is a very broad term. IND/DEM are considered to be a Eurosceptic parliamentary group, but it is actually divided into to wings. The INDs are headed by that UKIP guy and oppose membership full stop. But the DEMs headed by Kathy Sinnott claim to only want reform of the institutions.

    Still Eurosceptics though.

Ultra-nationalist wacko's, the lot of them.
They'll probably win a heap of seats.

Hopefully if Ganley gets a few candidates he will decide what Libertas actually intend to do if elected.

What Ganley needs is bums on seats, not some pansy-ass "loose alliance" of eurosceptic crackpots.

And anyway, something tells me that even if Klaus himself came out and denounced Ganley as a nutcase, you wouldn't see it as a blow........
