Lisbon II Invites Retribution on Irish Soil – Vote No!

Having suffered an embarrassing defeat some months back, the Irish government is gearing up for Lisbon II. A recent Irish Times poll has indicated an uncomfortable swing in favour of the treaty, partly because of a misguided perception of a link between the initial rejection and the current downturn in the economy. MPACIE believes that the Lisbon Treaty is bad for Muslims in Ireland for a number of reasons, primarily because of its impact on state neutrality.
The UK is currently embroiled in two wars it cannot possibly win (in both Afghanistan and Iraq). Its illegal occupation and subjugation of Muslims in those countries has invited retribution to its shores. In what was widely propagated as the last will and testament of alleged 7/7 bomber, Shehzad Tanweer, he is reported to have said: "What you have witnessed now is only the beginning of a string of attacks that will continue and become stronger until you pull your forces out of Afghanistan and Iraq and until you stop your financial and military support to America and Israel." Clearly in the mind of Tanweer and others, the UK’s foreign policy invited reprisal.

We have already invited retribution by virtue of the fact that we are Western, secular, and generally progressive. It also doesn't help the fact that most of our religious going population are Christian and we have no interest in forming a Caliphate of any kind.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

Being western and secular invites verbal criticism only, forcing a debunked system down the throats of Muslims is likely to invite a very different response. Ireland should play no part in this.

I am against those wars and wish to remain neutral not for fear of retribution, but because they are wrong. Warning us of retribution sounds like a veiled threat.

Whether or not Lisbon actually affects our neutrality, I don't know. It's not my contention with Lisbon, but if it did affect neutrality it certainly would be a negative.

    Veiled? Hardly...

Well, in the sense that he's not saying he'll do it, but you've got to worry about his crazy co-religionists!

What we should be worried about are those who would sell out neutrality and place us 'in harm's way'. This treaty is bad for non-Muslims but worse for Muslims. Imagine the kickback if some nutter did do something. This is a bad move, some would say dangerous.

Shut up, Lisbon does not affect our neutrality. Go die.

If some nutter did do something here under Lisbon all of the EU would be obliged to do whatever they can to help us out. That would include any type of nutter. So if in a few years we have a vote for a UI and as will most likely happen Loyalists will attempt to "disuade" the people in the republic from voting yes then we will have help from all of the EU in dealing with it.
