Ronan Mullen hints at charter opt-out to change his mind

Listening to the excellent sen. ronan mullen this morning where he indicated that an exemption from social and ethical policy could change his mind. Currently this would have to take the shape of a TCOFR opt-out.
Labours joe costello pretty confirmed labours u-turn on a rerun. He said a TCOFR opt-out would lose labours support for the rerun.

    Another thread .........

What social and ethical policy is contained in the Treaty? Did he mention the Charter?

Anyway if there was such an opt-out in place, there are many Yes voters who wouldn't support the Treaty, including myself

Opt out from the COFR and the government gains the Mad Mulla(n)h's support but loses Labour and the Trade Unions. Even ZANU FF are not that incompetent. Oh, hang on a minute ...

It looks as if the National Womens Council, ICCL, Womens Aid, Rape Crisis centres, Family Planning centres are planning to join the no side if the Government tries to have an opt out on womens health.

    Silly boys.

The Government are slipping up by trying to bring Coir onto the yes side. Only 2% said abortion influenced their lisbon 1 vote. And half of them voted yes because they hoped it would lead to a change in our abortion laws.

What member of the Government has ever mentioned an opt-out from the Charter? What "women's health" section is present in the Treaty?

When they are referring socio-ethical issues - they mean abortion and womens health.

But considering there are no "socio-ethical" issues in the Treaty, it would be hard for their to be an opt out from them.

Maybe I should have posted this in a different thread. As it is not really about the Charter rather the Government looking for a declaration on abortion.

And in doing so upsetting key groups that usually support EU treaties.
