Peter Sutherland refers to "disaster" of lisbon rejection.

Our fattest cat PS launched a now standard vague piece of scaremongering about "consequences" in todays IT. Again invoking icelands woes to create alarm.
    For the millionth time,
There is no proposal on the table to leave the EU or reinstate the punt! (I wish there was).

this is actually becoming tiresome now.

for three days in a row ive heard some one on RTE say "shouda voted yes to lisbon den !" as if its the panacea to everything. (pat kenny twice and a complete idiot on QandA who compared us to nazis while he was at it)

they were going on about the pork thing today in term of compensation and without a hint of shame inferred that blackmail was the order of the day and would result in cash coming from the EU if we'd only voted yes .

    stomach churning TBH.

And NO ONE wants to talk about denmark and how being out of the EU hasnt done them any harm and unlike us THEYRE not in recession.

    Here it is

Ireland's No an unprecedented disaster, says Sutherland - The Irish Times - Wed, Dec 10, 2008

I like the way he thinks the will of parliament should supercede the will of the people. Shows what eurocrats really think of democracy.

no denmark opted out of masstricht so they dont have the euro, eu citizenship or have to take part in some military thingy.

officially there in a quazi EC status. its a clear example of how being IN europe isnt necessairly about being in the "HEART of the EU"

bloody hope so anyway cause im still buying danish kroner in the job !

oh and gemany IS in recession, thats WHY the ECBs been slashing interests rates.

dya think they'd do that just for us? Germany fell into recession somewhen early last month.

    Tellya wha.
Why not get together with your fellow Europhobes, form a party, stand for election on a "leave the EU and reinstate the punt" platform....

When you get up in the morning is your first thought "we gotta get out of the EU"?

I suggest that you, I and the rest of us would better focus on "how the fvck are we going to survive this recession".

Unless you think that the recession here was caused by our membership of the EU & the euro?

Denmark signed up to a diet maastrict. The treaty is in force but four key provisions dont apply to denmark. I talked with jens petr bonde about this and he felt the opt-outs were a fruad and i have to say he had a point.
1- The citizenship opt-out has little tangible effect and also danish documents have eu graffiti on them and the european crown and union jack.
2- The defence opt-out again has little tangible effect as denmark is a NATO member and participates in common foriegn policy with most EU countries anyway.
3- The justice opt-out was essentially negated by joining the schengen treaty as common justice and policing follows on naturally from schengen.
4- The euro opt-out is quite cosmetic as denmark remains committed to ERM2
