Caroline Simons of Libertas on Vincent Browne TV3

She is getting a spanking from Vincent and Michael Martin. She really does not know very basic stuff about Europe. She said that Vaclav Klaus will be President of the EU from next January which is not the case it will be the Czech PM. She also said the Commission is the most powerful body in the EU when it is actually the Council of Ministers. She really has been badly briefed but in any case this is basic stuff she should know herself. Thanks be to Jesus there is not a big audience on TV3 at this hour.

Well, Declan Ganley went on Vincent Browne before the referendum and told us that the Lisbon Treaty provided for the detention of three-year-olds and he still won the vote.

Probably because no one seen it and put it in the same catageory as one of the gov ministers assertion of mothers being worried about conscription

(always get confused between micheal martin and martin cullen. it was one of em anyway.)

Vincent Browne's show is about one thing and one thing alone: Vincent Browne

The guests are there so that he can can express his views by asking questions and then arguing the toss when he gets the answer the question was designed to elicit.

Last night was a perfect example. One of his favourite topics is the exageration of our crime problem, which he expounded on at length in light of the murder of Simon Geoghegan.
A demagogue is someone who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots.

Caroline is usually sharp as a tack, and having seen her in action many times I think it's unfair to say that she doesn't know the basic stuff about Europe as she is normally incredibally knowledgable about all aspects of the EU (well as much as anybody can be).
As mistakes go, and that's what I believe these are, they are relatively minor ones.
Funny enough last June after being out canvassing from about 7am I was close to finishing up around 6pm is and I made the very same council/commission mistake myself!
    A poster of some consequence...

Excellent. CS is precisely the kind of shrill, patronising spokesperson the Yes camp wants to see advocating a No on the Lisbon 2 campaign! Dick Roche eat your heart out. It'll be interesting to see how many neutrals she alienates.

Ganley won sweet FA the polls showed nobody cared about corporation tax which was the main issue Libertas campaigned on.

Incidentally, CS's gaffe on the "all-powerful" EU Commission was actually nothing more than a typical eurosceptic mantra. It wasn't just a slip. It's precisely the kind of guff that gets posted on P.ie on a routine basis. Could it be that core "No to Lisbon" is starting to believe it's own hype? This and some of the other typical anti-EU misrepresentations are going to look rather tired and emotional in the daylight of a full-on Lisbon 2 campaign.

....and there I was thinking it was "full-on" already, what with all those ominous references to "consequences" and to all those "controversial" views that just happen to reflect the opinions of the majority here. But since when did a majority view ever matter to the Euro-fanatics and sundry Euro-groupies ?
