SF and Libertas get the credit for the No vote and the IFA gets a very negative rating.

A startling reversal? 53.4% voted against the referendum. This poll says that 54% are happy with that result, with a margin of error of 3% and a verifiable error of 8%.

Sorry, I don't really get the shock here.
54% happy 35% unhappy with the Lisbon No vote - a 19% margin compared to the 7% on June 12th despite all the No bashing and rabbit in the headlights navel gazing from from the Yes camp. If reflected in a Lisbon 2 it would mean a circa 60:40 No vote.

Huh? You're equating being happy with a result and people voting for a certain outcome. I can think of at least three people who I've been talking to who voted yes, would vote yes, but are happy with the result (for a variety of different reasons).

    Thats probably true.
seconded. i get the feeling the times does polls like these in the hopes of generating headlines that suit their agenda and then bury them when they dont get the result they want.

Cop on mate, the Irish have spoken.

As for the poll results, wa-hey!

Monet, explain to me how this - "to ratify as much as possible through the Dail that would survive a supreme court challenge and a hold a referendum on three or four remaining parts with threat of general election and renegotiation of EU membership.Following a successful referendum the dail could ratify Lisbon 2." - is in any way a realisitic way forward not to mention the only one???

Imagine if you will the constitutional and governmental crisis that would cause. We can only implement a European treaty through referendum. The Supreme Court has already pronounced on this. We can't cut it up into bite sized chunks to make it easier to swallow as no such bite size chunks would have come from the EU. I particularly love the "threat of general election and renegotiation of EU membership" bit. You really believe in Lisbon that much, you believe the stability of the government, the economy are worth jeopardising???? not to mention the resultant civil disorder which would no doubt ensue from being threatened??
Those who think they know it all upset those of us that do.........

Re: Large majority happy with Lisbon No vote: Poll

One in six of those who said they were happy with the outcome believes, nevertheless, that it will have negative consequences for Ireland. One in three said they were happy with the outcome even though they accept that it will negatively affect the European Union.
How the ************************ can you be happy with the outcome, if you believe that it will have negative consequences for Ireland, never mind the EU. Is there a substantial number of Irish people who hate Ireland and what to see it suffer or something?

It truly is mind boggling. And WTF does "being happy" with the result mean, anyway? The Government really needs to be horsewhipped for having a Referendum on this issue.

Only solution to all this is to tell the European Council that we won't be voting again and have them spell it out for us: you're either in or you're out.

All this pussyfooting around is getting us nowhere.

indeed. you should HEAR the yes camp love fest on RTE 1 right now. pushing the "we shouldnt have even voted on this " agenda again.

id be interested to see how this is going down in media circle as theres been heaps of " i met loads of no voters who wished they voted yes " broadcasts since the result.

if anything i think this poll might underestimate a no in another referendum as the propaganda is really starting to get on my tits for one. the planks stand in is in full attack mode on declan ganly now as i type.

these feckers just dont get it.
