    McCreevey "don't be bullied"

Good 'ol charlie in a report on Today Fm news said that Irish people will not be isolated and have nothing to worry about following the result of the lisbon treaty referendum, despite what government officials are saying.

I'll try find a transcript of the statement

    Re: McCreevey "don't be bullied"

    From Examiner breaking news:

EU Commissioner Charlie McCreevy says there is no question of Ireland being bullied by the EU into holding a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

Speaking in Dublin today, he also dismissed speculation that the other 26 EU member states will ratify the treaty and leave Ireland behind.

Mr McCreevy said it would be an outrage if the other member states did not accept the decision of the Irish people, but he said he believed they would respect the Irish outcome.

He also said he strongly suspected that other EU member states would have rejected the treaty if it was put to a vote.

it sounds a lot like the old " when in trouble talk like you're in opposition" disarming-the-plebs ploy.

mccreevey is not seeking another term as commisioner, he will return to Ireland within shouting distance oif the presidency coming up for grabs, but even without that he has a legacyt in Ireland which he may want to protect, sounds tyo me like that is his priorittyy, but it must also be pointed out that his opinions should disarm some of the hysteria on the Yes side in recent days

Sounds like a politician, after a long time dithering and peddling his pet prejudices, at last understanding the public mood and getting belatedly, reluctantly onside with it (the opposite of having 'balls'). Greasy McCreevy strikes again.....

Confirms my suspicion that he never really supported this Treaty. That may also be why he said a while ago that he hadn't read it. I'm glad we have him standing up for us against the tax-base harmonisation plan. If Lisbon passes we won't have anyone fighting for us on the Commission.

I dont really disagree with anything you say in that post FT, but I would say that when he became commissioner McCreevy's job is to work for the interests of the EU not of Ireland.

McCreevy is a Commissioner. He has fukk all authority in relation to decisions of the Council which is ultimately where Ireland's fate will be decided.
