Is the No result indicative of a loss of mandate for FF?
Given that all of the major Political Parties advocated a Yes vote, would a General Election be pointless?
Would a second referendum on Lisbon be justified / acceptable after such an election?
I sincerely doubt that an election will be called, but still want to know what you think.
Taoiseach should go to the country seeking a mandate on limited Treaty reforms. He would obiterate FG, SF support would rise but no more than 10/12 seats in total.
He should then form a government, get the proposals agreed to in a protocol attaching to the next Treaty of Accession and ratify it in accordance with the advice of the A-G

It shouldn't be called - the government got their mandate from the Dail last month, not from the people in this referendum. That said, no second referendum should be held this side of the next general election in 2012.Originally Posted by Koya

No - People voted Fianna Fail because they werent impressed with the alternative. This referendum shows that they didnt get in because of the sterling abilites of their prominent deputies.

No. We've only just had 1 a year ago. Next year's local and euro elections will allow people to send their message to the Establishment then. I hope eurosceptics do well in the euros.
I'm surprised at how often over the last few days I have heard this idea suggested by people whom I respect in a significant way, my own opinion is its a non runner.
