    Ganley lets the mask slip

Ursula Halligan asked the three major figures in the NO campaign from Libertas, Sinn Féin and Cóir) how they felt about the heckling and jostling of Brian Lenihan at the Dublin count centre.

Both Richard Green and Mary Lou McDonald had no hesitation or reservation in distancing themselves from the behaviour and regretted the attempt by Coir supporters to deny Lenihan's freedom to speak. Naturally they played it down - but they both did - in fairness - say what happened was wrong.

Declan Ganley however declined to express any sadness, criticism or regret - except to make a truly pathetic attempt to laugh off the episode saying he disapproved of their attempted singing. Is this the most he can muster. How mealy mouthed is this man?

Even Richard Green admitted that he would seek an opportunity to apologise to Lenihan sometime, whereas Ganley saw absolutely nothing wrong with what happened. Is this the view of all the Libertas people on here?

Was Ganley right to go with his instincts and refuse to criticise behaviour that was obviously wrong? I am sure the Ganley apologists on here will say I am blowing this whole episode out of proportion - after all what happened at the RDS was hardly in the league of a krystalnacht or a book burning.... but given that it was such a relatively minor incident why does he so resolutely refuse to condemn it?

Oh plz. After weeks of being called "loolahs" or being told were lunatics or mad etc. I don't think the govt has any business looking for sympathy over this sort of thing. I agree with Ganley - it was exhuberance, and not without some wit. Anyway members of Coir seem to have been the ones doing it, not Libertas, so what Ganley has to apologise for I don't know. I'm still waiting for the govt to apologise for calling 54% of us "loolahs".

    Oh noes.

Many others on the radio and TV, including from the yes side, had the same opinion, that it wasn't a big deal. Now personally I think it was a mistake, they definitely should have let the returning officer finish. But who cares if Ganley fails to condemn them for it?

Wow, it is so sad when this is all the Yes side have left, a few nutters from Coir who sang at Lenihan and this is a crime apparently

    Freedom of speech denied?

So if that is denial of speech, how are you explaining the fact that the Government is ignoring our vote and them and the EU are carrying on regardless? Does that count as denial of freedom of speech?

    Ganley apologists
What on earth are they ? The various YES campaigns having been trying to smear this man for the past several months without ever landing a blow. He hardly needs "apologists". The YES side are clearly miffed at their failure to identify a demon on the NO side, as they had done during Nice 2.

    you are deranged...

    they were celebrating ..so what.

lenihan said he was nt run out of the building.

What he did say that opposition to the Treaty came from the extreme left and the extreme right in Europe and this was quashing free speech

Given that a clear majority of the Irish electorate voted NO he is equating the majority of Irish people as being left and right wing extremists.
....as a political comment from a senior government minister it lacked judgement and was a juvenile response from him.

He wasn't doing the poor singing so why should he apologise?

And is everything this man does going to be lampooned, criticised and discussed simply because he was part of a group that won a referendum?
Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them.

lets not forget the man who said this was smirking in front of a tribunal claiming hed won a fortune on the horses whilst his supporters were openly laughing in the public viewing area during the proceedings .
A wek later people show their contempt for them in public by jeering ? are they feckin surprised . They should get an apology when they deserve one and not before .

you shouldve heard saturday edition on newstalk covering this . you swear they black bagged him and kicked the crap out of the reporter.

this is truly desperate ,desperate stuff. FFS ive seen enough election and referendums to know the FIRST thing people do when they win is celebrate and these guys did that, for gods sake they beat 95% of the establishment, when the hell do you expect to see THAT again? and guess what you could STILL hear what the man said anyway. the yes camp are just manufacturing nonsense now

what i want to know is why did RTE slip straight back into section 32 mode and start interviewing the loser?
