Proud to be Irish - again.

I have been maligning the southern Irish for many months (if not years) now. I have been disgusted with our complete disregard for our northern brethren. I have been appalled at the acceptance of corruption at the very top of the Irish political system. I have cited ex-ambassadors to Ireland who pondered where 'the outrage is' of the Irish people. I have been stunned by our incumbent government's incompetence and the ineptitude of the opposition to capitalise on it. I have been shocked by some dingbats claiming immigration and abortion were factors in the Lisbon Treaty when they clearly weren't that important.

However, the Lisbon Treaty vote result has restored my faith in the 26 counties. I'm so happy that we finally re-grew a pair. We are not pushovers any more and any attempt to bully or scare-monger us into decisions will fail. I am proud to be Irish and that the world recognises us again for what we used to be - fighters.

Guys and girls...rather than defend ourselves on the 'ashamed to be Irish thread' why not post here stating how proud you are to be Irish? I know bumping my own thread is sad but jaysus...

Well unlike some sad, pathetic fu*kers on this forum, I couldn't give a toss what the sh*theads in Le Monde or La Figaro, or the gobsh*tes in the European Parliament think of us or our NO vote. If they can't respect the outcome of a democratic referendum, something those wa*kers haven't the balls to give their own people, then democracy is in a sad state in Europe.

If Ireland is an indicator of how others may have voted across Europe surely other countries will now demand a referendum? What's the point of a Treaty that the establishment love but the public may not. Furthermore, why is it good for the elite but not for the people?

Yep. I was hoping for discussion but it appears not too many of us are as proud to be Irish as we are proud to not be ashamed. Kinda typically Irish, really. When will inferiority die amongst us?

I really don't care what Le Monde or elsewhere have to say about the No vote. I made up my own mind about the sad state of affairs and outright bull************************ claims that led to it myself.

When you figure out what the No vote actually means in constructive terms let me know.

I had my reasons for voting NO which were completely genuine. I'm not gullable and I'm not easily led, I listened to what both sides had to say and made up my own mind from there. Other people had their own reasons for voting NO. But right now the government or the EU don't want to hear why people voted NO, they're too concerned with finding a way around the referendum outcome.
