The vast majority of the 25 member countries are against Turkish membership of the EU.....and seeing the times we're living in, I think it'll stay that way.

No they are not. And there are 27 members.

It removes the member limit from Nice.
Not exactly a proxy for Turkish membership, but definitely favourable towards that end.

Still, as I've said, there's plenty of valid reasons to reject them.
There is no membership limit in Nice.

    Brio,

Before Turkey take over the EU could you tell us what in the Lisbon Treaty helps them to get in?

The reality is they will not get in decades at a minimum

Does Nice mention a number or does it not ?

We are aware that new states may join on the basis of accession treaties.

I think Lisbon ends the veto on further Enlargement, so it really is a vote on Turkish membership. No to Turkey - no to exploitation and displacement. Also the plan to rotate the Commissioners in Lisbon is clearly part of an agenda of making Turkish entry more feasible. Vote no.

Bonkers threads like this remind me of what I might (metaphorically) wake up beside the day after the vote.

Between Mary Lou McDoughnut, Niamh Nic TwinEvils, Dick Roche and Giscard d'Estaing it's been a close-run race. thus far.

That's it. I've tipped over into the "Yes" camp.

While you're telling us that you should mention it to Gay Mitchell that it's not about China either.

    sweet divine Jesus (allegedly)

more lies - do ye have no shame at all??

You know what - I'd have an awful lot more respect for some of the No side (eg SF, Libertas) if they came out and said look we're for a No vote but don't get swayed by bullcrap like this (or the abortion, prostitution, euthanasia etc) arguments because they are a load of crap. You should vote no because .... etc

At least then whilst I would disagree with them (more than likely) I could at least have respect for their telling the truth on these spurious stupid issues.

Joe Higgins (for example) was given the opportunity to step his campaign away from the "Vote No to stop abortion" side of things on the radio today and to be fair he was fairly weak in side-stepping the direct question put to him.

Turkish membership will be a calamity for the EU. THere is a real danger that current membership talks will give Turkish accession an unstoppable momentum. The governments of UK and Finland are the chief promoters of this lunacy. Needless to say the people of the EU (including UK and Finland) do not wish to see Turkish accession in any circumstances.
