    French Minister threatens Ireland

How dare this man threaten Ireland.

France's Foreign Minister has warned that Ireland will be "the first victim" if voters reject the Lisbon Treaty in this Thursday's referendum.

In an interview today, Bernard Kouchner says Ireland had benefited more than others from the EU and Europe should be able to count on the Irish for support.
We fought for 700 years for our freedom from domination by Big countries and will not be told what to do.

Grow up. He's not threatening Ireland, he's pointing out, like he's entitled to, that there will be consequences of voting no,. Thats not a threat, thats reality. I feel sorry for our brussels corp who will be the ones to deal with the fall uot of this, it won't be McDonald... their negotiating position should we reject 5 years of hard graft by them , their colleagues etc will be miserable.

Nonsense. Of course he's threatening us. France are one of the two main powers in the EU. If they don't ensure that there are 'consequences' for us, who else will? He's not referring to the Latvians or the Greeks, is he?

I'm confused now. The Austrian letters were OK, the pro-referendum demonstrations were OK, the vigil at the Paris Embassy was OK, and we're to vote on behalf of the French and Dutch No voters anyway...those are all demonstrations of support for the righteousness of the No camp, apparently. So is foreign interference OK or not OK?

Gerry Adams is in Limerick today canvassing for a no vote and I'd class that as foreign.

There's a big difference between Austrian, French, Dutch (the latter two who of course rejected the Constitution and correctly see this as a scam designed to subvert that) or other CITIZENS making their views known and a foreign Government basically threatening citizens of another member state about the consequences of rejecting this charade.

What??? wouldn't like to see what you do call a threat so. This is just another glimpse of how the new EU will work should this treaty be ratified. Our "Brussles corp" can gpo back to the feckin' negotiating table and negotiate something that actually BENEFITS Ireland.

I'll vote NO thinking of this French tosser.
