    Re: French Minister threatens Ireland

    There is false impression that by rejecting this treaty we will be out of the European Union .

    No not at all, just that the previous treaty would still hold, not this LISBON one, which reduces the Dail to

    a regional asssembly, rubberstamping the NEW Unions dictates.

    Just a little note aside here . The French ,Dutch ,and groups from other countries that are now awakening to this treaty don't want out, they want a referendum, and on the day of the signatures of Sarkozy et al there were approx. 140 M.E.P.s who demonstrated to have a referendum, but were ignored and insulted. They are still there ,still European, but want democracy.
    The West has lectured and atacked many countries to force their ''democratic system ''on them, now they have to bully us ,because that is what they do ,they are attacking their own kind now because thy refuse to take a higher path ,a spiritual path of self improvement,of inner enlightenment. They are not democrats they have no love of their people ,just of power and greed.

    Re: French Minister threatens Ireland

    Apologies, I posted this already as a seporate topic before seeing this one;

    I'm glad to say that while I've been on holiday, people have woken up to the 'minor admin' changes contained in Lisbon. While in Greece, I recently read the Le Monde article relating to the abomination of democracy we are now expected to ratify. Therein, it contained brazenly spurious critique of why there is a No sentiment in Ireland. It basically stipulated that we are greedy and thankless and only wish to take what the EU offers while giving nothing in return. Nowhere does it mention that we are now a net contributor to the Union, nor is any attention ever paid to the fact that we are the poster boy of Europe, the model on which the 'poor' eastern members may aspire. In addition to the flimsily understood position of the no sentiment in Ireland, the idiot columnist described FF as center right and FG as a workers party- Holy mother of God they can't even get that right, nor has any substantial link been made to the fact the many no voters are voting to reiterate what the people of France have already decreed. Remember too, Sarko pledged to give them another say on a 'mini treaty.

    Well that said, make sure you read this http://euobserver.com/9/26299/?rk=1

    ...and be under no illusion this Treaty needs to be scuppered by a firm NO. Does anybody remember that it was us that told the last Empire where to get off? In the words of Yeats 'we are no petty people' and in addition to that are the only remaining voice to deterre this madness. We joined the EU as an economic project, which by its nature was to create economic inter-dependencies as to avert the propensity for future wars, we did not join to injure this political insanity.

    May I also mention that the European continent has been arguably the most war mongering and violent in the history of civilisation, the reason we have had a measure peace for the past fifty years is precisely because Europe has not militarised to any large extent. The provision to increase military capacities enshrined in this treaty is indeed a treacherous road on which Europe now travels.
