well the only time i seen anyone handing out leaflets was last friday when both yes and no camps were on grafton street. gay mitchel , pre his jim corr impression, and the coir crowd.
didnt take either . ive made up my mind, whats the point getting stuff now?
As do i now. I was expecting a MUCH more balanced view on the treaty last weekend, but if a certain midlands based town (quite a large town, i might add) represents in any way an accurate cross-section of public opinion it'll be a landslide no vote!Originally Posted by FutureTaoiseach
I was volunteering handing out leaflets asking for a No vote over the weekend, and was alarmed at the vast majority of people who were apathetic towards the treaty, a lot of people who just weren't interested in the treaty, were "sick of it" or just plain weren't voting. Asides from that, i met a very large number of people who were intending to vote no (including a number of people who claimed membership of fianna fail), and quite a few people who were interested in learning more about the treaty, but hadn't decided which way to vote yet.
I only counted six people who declared their full intent to vote yes, but none of these were willing to discuss reasons for their decision, despite one punter whose argument was that being related to an Taoiseach was a valid reason to vote yes. (for fear of being ejected from the family perhaps?)![]()
The main demographic of people expressing an interest in the referendum seemed to be young people aged 18-25 and most people over the age of 35. The majority of the people i met between these age demographics (ie-25-35) were the ones that showed the most apathy towards the treaty and who regularly stated that they woud not be using their vote on June 12.
That is what I'm finding as well among people I talk with.
I did try the leaflet hand-out for a while, but found I got much better response and interest when I just converse with people. Handing people a piece of paper doesn't really catch their interest, speaking conversationally does.

Glad people saw our canvassers out on the job. We are still open to adding more volunteers, so if you are interested send me a PM. The yellow t-shirted canvassers will be targeting Heuston tomorrow morning.

be sure and ask them some tough questions, I believe you will be surprised as to how well informed they are. As for shouting at me I have a meeting on at the same time so I will not be there but I will be in attendance at our environmental campaign group event on Grafton Street at 11amOriginally Posted by CookieMonster
Oh the shouting has nothing to do with Lisbon, I'm just really not a morning person!Originally Posted by Rebelman
