SIPTU to announce stance on lisbon on friday.

just up on their own home page at www.siptu.ie .

they were supposed to announce their stance today but apparently its been pushed back to friday . announcement at 2.30 according to the press release.

they say theyve had a "consulatative process " to ascertain members view but as a member myself i can say they didnt ask me squat.

i'll go out on a limb and say its going to be a yes recomendation. mainly because if it is a no less than two weeks gives them feck all time to get their oar in.

You're not going out on an limb at all.

SIPTU are part of the establishment, lock stock and barrel. If Lab are going Yes, you can be sure that SIPTU are too. I'd love to be wrong, but I wont be

Does that mean they will campaign on the Treaty one way or the other?
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

If they call for a No vote, I will gladly accept that I was incorrect. I think a SIPTU no call now could be the nail in the coffin of the Treaty. They would be the most high-profile organisation to come out against it.

But that's why I don't think it will happen. Labour and the rest of the social partners won't let them

The trade union IMPACT endorsed the Lisbon Treaty and they have not canvassed their members .

The trade unions are now part of the ruling elite and rule in direct opposition to the people they are supposed to represent.
(the exception being the technical union and I think also 'Mandate')

jesus i never even thought of a "no stance". i thought at this stage there'd be too much preasure to cop out like that. particularly with them abstaining in the ICTU vote so they could qualify it in this manner. by doing that they tacitly fell in line with the yes camp.

i'd like to think they'd say vote no and indeed the cagey nature of this announcement makes me think they may just do that.......... and do feck all about it citing the decision being too close to the actual referendum . effectively not campaigning on it at all .

but its SIPTU. ************************ers are establishment to the core and have a long history of selling out their members with "partnership " deals that leave them locked into pathetic bargains that only benefit their public sector members. i wouldnt be surprised if this "consultation" was done down the local pub with six of the big guys and a chineese take away.
