    Unidentified Anti Treaty Posters

    Hi All,

Just a quick question on this.
I have noticed in the Limerick Area that yet more posters have appeared. As if it wasn't enough that every second lampost was covered. These ones are No posters, which say something to the effect... 'People died for your freedom, don't give it away.. vote no.. blah blah'
I find these posters really offensive. They are offensive to peoples intelligence, and they are blatantly sensational in nature.
There is no marking on the posters to indicate which organisation is circulating them. Apparently whoever decided to put these together is aware that they are utter rubbish as they are ashamed to put their name to them.
Has anyone else noticed posters similar to this in their area's?

Lots of them in Dublin as well. I think they are very well produced and they are obviously making an impact. At least they appeal to Irish peoples' sense of history and are far beyond say the blueshirts' soft porn posters appealing to the lowest common denominator among what some marketing graduate fondly imagines are the 'yuff'. Or the posters of local TDs appealing for people to vote Yes becasue, well, Mickey Joe says you are to vote yes and Mickey Joe got your granny bumped up the waiting list for her zimmer frame.

There are three posters - the one with the monkeys, the one with the proclamation, and the one with the white writing on the red background (the text temporarily escapes me).

All three are produced by Youth Defence.

The best way of summing up the Yes Votes poster campaign I've heard!

They have the name and address of the organisation on them in size 8 or 10 font, practically invisible unless you're looking for it. (A garda thought I was about to steal the poster, I was examining it so closely.)

Cóir is the name of the group. As stretchneil says, they're associated with YD.

They may be making an impact due to their sensational nature, but if they're so well produced and so effective, why aren't the group who have produced them prepared to proudly put their name to them.

I think they're pathetic. Classic fear mongering. I really hope the average Irish person can can see that.

I'm pretty sure they can, all I've heard people say about those posters is that they're surprised they can get away with it.

They are annoying me because they are playing to a presumed lack of intelligence on the part of the reader. What does the Irish War of Independence have to do with the Lisbon Treaty?
It's probably worth mentioning that I'm not aligned in any particular way with regard to the treaty. I think I'll probably vote yes, but my problem is with any group stooping to scare tactics to try to 'win' this thing.
    Pathetic and Arrogant.
