Did he say what the price would be at all?

Did he say anything like that or is the Indo saying it for him?

Well VB said he couldn't see what the specific threat was other than that Ireland 'would pay a price'. Make of it what you will.

Orders coming down from on high... Tony O'Reilly would like to stir thing a little. Maybe make life tough for the new Taoiseach. I'm suprised FT hasn't been along in a little hurry, Act of Union crumpled in one hand, to declare victory.Originally Posted by kerrynorth

IT Breaking News have the story:
No vote bad for EU, says Barroso
An No vote in the Lisbon referendum would be bad for the whole of Europe, including Ireland, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said today.
Mr Barroso told the European Policy Centre think-tank the 27-nation bloc could be stuck with an unresolved problem of institutional reform for years if Irish voters reject the treaty, meant to make an enlarged Union work more effectively.
"There is no Plan B," Barroso said. "If there was a "No", in Ireland or in another country, it would have a very negative effect for the EU."
"We will all pay a price for it, Ireland included, if this is not done in a proper way," he said.

Where's the threat btw
I'm guessing the bold bit is the threat if we're bold and exercise our democratic right to vote no.Originally Posted by Helium Three

One final thought: what sort of 7 billion euro a year bureaucracy fails to come up with a plan B for a vast reformation of the organisation that needs to be ratified by all 27 members, all of whom ought to have put it to a popular vote, and some of whom voted it down in its previous guise?
A poorly prepared one that we should not be handing over more sovereignty to, I'd suggest.
