Invite to debate agriculture & Lisbon

The Guild of Agricultural Journalists (which I chair) is holding a debate on the Lisbon Treaty at RTE on Monday next, May 19th. It will be chaired by RTE's Rachael English. Edited highlights will be broadcast on "The late debate" on RTE radio 1 on Tuesday night.

Speakers are Minister Dick Roche, Michael Creed (FG ag spokesman), Martin Ferris and Declan Ganley. Farm organisations will also be represented.
The debate takes place at 7pm in the radio centre. If you are interested in attending, you can email me at pokeeffe@farmersjournal.ie

That'll be interesting - if only to see DG explain his way out of his total support / fanatical passion for the abolition of CAP up to the start of this referendum campaign.

Declan clarified on his stance tonight. He said it was a WMD up until the reforms were made. He himself also comes from a farming background...

Any chance of a link to clarify exactly what he means by this? - and what reforms were these - there have been no serious reforms of cap in 5 years at least and he is on record in supporting the abolition of CAP as recently as 2005

The 2004 one. Now, Ibis, I do not know the workings of Declan Ganley's pysche. I can only repeat what he said. Please don't grill me on this.

If you want a link, I think I mentioned it on the Forum on Europe Galway May 12th thread.

As I said above decoupling was the major change with CAP in recent years.
