They don't seem to have noticed that the UK has opted out of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice.

You don't seem to have noticed that we're not in the UK anymore.

You've got to hand it to you, FT. You would say anything, claim anything and associate with anyone in your paranoia about the treaty. Now you are brown-nosing SF! Who would ever have predicted that in your old PD days!!!

I wouldn't be seen dead voting for them in General or local elections, but I admire one thing - their defence of Irish sovereignty in this debate on Lisbon and EU integration generally. In a Euro election I might vote for them so that voices against a European Superstate have more of a voice in our lopsided cohort of MEPs.

Wrong on both counts. Sections 7 and 8 of documents clearly spell out both points.

    (b)(iv) Overall Assessment

    57. The amendments made to the EU’s asylum and immigration regime by the Lisbon Treaty, in particular the move to a common policy with uniform standards, all to be adopted by QMV, represent a significant shift of power from the Member States to Brussels.

Wrong on both counts? You're saying Ireland hasn't left the UK?

What MWUK has to say is no doubt very interesting. However, the immigration policy they refer to does not apply to Ireland or the UK, neither can the court judgements they claim could affect Ireland or the UK be made:

PROTOCOL ON THE POSITION OF THE UNITED KINGDOM AND IRELAND IN RESPECT OF THE AREA OF FREEDOM, SECURITY AND JUSTICE

    Article 1
Subject to Article 3, the United Kingdom and Ireland shall not take part in the adoption by the Council of proposed measures pursuant to Title IV [V] of Part Three of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union

    Article 2
In consequence of Article 1 and subject to Articles 3, 4 and 6, none of the provisions of Title IV [V] of Part Three of the Treaty on the Functioning of the
European Union, no measure adopted pursuant to that Title, no provision of any international agreement concluded by the Union pursuant to that Title, and no decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union interpreting any such provision or measure shall be binding upon or applicable in the United Kingdom or Ireland; and no such provision, measure or decision shall in any way affect the competences, rights and obligations of those States; and no such provision, measure or decision shall in any way affect the Community or Union acquis nor form part of Union law as they apply to the United Kingdom or Ireland.
