"Treaty Opponents are Nitpickers of Extreme Right and Left"

Says that eminent statesperson Dr. G. FitzGerald in a press release today.

Nice to see that he's acknowledging that some of us actually know the content of the Treaty. Shame he had to resort to slander again to get his point across. Ignorant elitist clown.

That's some sweeping statement. Prove it.

    Extreme right: Libertas
    Extreme left: most other NOers

Nikpickers: read the convoluted arguments on p.ie and on their websites.

I'd add the word "liers" to Dr. G's description.

Sounds like a reasonable assessment of the posistion on the political spectrum of treaty opponents.

Sinn Féin, SWP are extreme Left in the Irish context, although Sinn Féin is moving to centre gradually, with a knowledge their brand of Marxist Nationalism will only get them so far in electoral politics here.
Patricia McKenna is also of the Left, on the fringes of the Green Party, although she is one of the brightest and most astute members of the "No side".
We presume the mysterious, activist 'We are Change' posistion themselves on the left, it's a group that appears to originate from the lunatic fringe of 9/11 conspiracy theories.

Libertas are right, perhaps extreme libretarians, with a mixed, incoherent, (US) Republican-ish, pro-business message about too much interference, and like some US Republicans seem to have a grá for distortion and hypocrisy.
Ditto Cóir, a front for Youth Defense.

Here we go again. Nasty personalised attacks substituting for debate on the contents of the Treaty. An indefensible treaty cannot be credibly defended so instead the yes side resort to negative personalised campaigning. Pathetic and it will backfire. It is very reminiscent of the Nice I campaign. I honestly don't see any evidence that Libertas is "extreme right". If they were the no side wouldn't have been so successful.

It seems that in the eyes of a minority, being a successful businessperson makes you "extreme right". Thankfully that is not the perspective of the Irish people.

The NO side are being successful through lying to the electorate. Huzzah, FT...
