just came into some information i thought you'd find interesting. a couple of months back ivan yates, crowing about what a certainty a yes vote would be, gave odds of 5 to 1 on a NO vote in the referendum through his outlets of celtic bookmakers betting shops. as people who frequent this site know myself FT and a few other thought that was a good punt and put our money down .i myself stuck 50 euro on it meaning if a no vote came in including the money i put down id get 300 euro back.
not bad !
anyway i was on the tear last night with a few friends and the subject came around to this in which i convinced my best friend to do the same. this morning we both sauntered into celtic bookmakers in tallaght circa 12.30 and asked the gentleman behind the desk we're they still giving 5 to 1 on a no vote on the lisbon treaty result. he gets up, goes to the telephone , makes a call and........... bettings suspended !!
i dont know whether it happend today as a result of ulich macavaddys (spl?) comments in the times, or the protest in the WTO talks with the farmers, but somethings scared ivan.you dont usually suspend betting on something this far out and i wouldnt be surprised is surreptiously the odds will be dropped when betting IS allowed. i know some might think this is trivial, but one of the oldest adages in the world is "put your money where your mouth is"
clearly ivans decided to take his off the table![]()
