oh i'd agree with those sentiments, though as far as I know, John does sympathise with Libertas' views. I must ask him about it next time I see him.Originally Posted by Edo

Well done Declan.
Glad to see he's wise to the damage SF can inflict on the No campaign. People would nearly vote yes, because SF is advocating No.
Declan would do well in the future to avoid them like the plague.
Indeed he would. Good call by Libertas. The SF issue was raised in my company over the weekend. The attitude was "if SF is against then I am for". I could only suggest that they hold their noses and vote No.Originally Posted by markeys
Declan only wants to be seen with the very rich people like Peter Sutherland.
He would not like to be seen debating with working people like members of S.F
It would raise questions about wheather anyone would work for something like this if they profoundly disagreed with the views of the organisation they were promoting? I think we can presume McGuirk is a committed supporter.Originally Posted by myk

Nonsense. SF are opposing the Treaty. If Libertas want to be taken seriously they have to deal with that, and try and explain it. Not pretend like SF don't exist.Originally Posted by markeys
I mean, who the hell does Ganley think he is? SF are 100, no, 1000 times more significant, more important and more representative of a sizeable section of the Irish people than Libertas is. But yet Ganley thinks he can act like the President of the United States, deciding who is and who isn't worthy of sitting on a platofrm with him.
Unbelieveable arrogance. Absolutely unbelieveable.
Youth Defence are opposed to it also. Does that mean that Libertas must also "deal" with them ?Originally Posted by CJH
Youth Defence are an unelected, unaccountable pressure group. Much like Libertas.
SF are a representative political party, and are in fact the largest and most important of the No groupings (in spite of what Libertas might like to think about themselves).
Of course, Ganley isn't obliged to acknowledge SF. But if he wants to play politics with the big boys, and wants to be acknowledged as a serious voice, as opposed to a Goldsmith-type businessman on an ego trip, he would be advised to at least treat SF with some respect.
Excellent point there. I'm no SF fan, but I have to say that they are a hundred times more significant than Libertas, and at least have SOME modicum of credibility in opposing Lisbon (since they opposed every Treaty thus far, and have been anti-european since the year Dot.)
Libertas on the other hand consists of 4 egos, holed up in a Unabomber-style hut outside of Tuam
Their arrogance and self-importance has already been shown up on here, in rather embarassing fashion, by David Cochrane's rants about Libertas' "right" to speak at various events
