"It's irrelevant how the Irish people vote"-MEP

    http://www.independent.ie/opinion/analy ... 18811.html

    Green MEP Pierre Jonckheer:

"It's irrelevant how the Irish people vote. There will be no re-negotiation of the Lisbon Treaty. That's politics, that's the way it is whether you like it or not."

Following on from De Rossa and co's decision not to respect the outcome of the referendum Green EP Vice-President Pieere Jonckheer has come out with the above statement.

I do love my European Union.

for all their talk about 'subsidiarity' and democracy, they are an extremely authoritarian bunch
Actual morality is doing what is right regardless of what you're told. Religious morality is doing what you're told, regardless of if it's right.

Well after a bit of dithering you can now firmly place me in the No camp.

So on the basis of a comment by one obscure Green MEP from Belguim - you are going to vote no.

thats classic - didn't take much to persuade you - God forbid you would read the treaty and come to your own conclusions.

I have been doing that as well.
The reason these comments are so signifiucant for me is that I have been very sceptical of some of the scaremongering claims made by some in the 'No' Camp, this sort of backs up those claims.
My main concern about the EU is the lack of democratic accountability which already exists, and the fear that this could get worse, that comment appears to justiofy those fears more than somewhat.

I agree, would you have done so on the basis of what Dana or Patricia McKenna said/say about the referendum?

Actually - they voted against a whole slew of ammendents to that were bundled into one vote - but hey- dont let the facts or context get in the way of what you want to believe.

Another example of the yes camps tactics, when someone decides to vote no, they presume it is for some silly reason and try to demean the reasons as immature and ignorant!

    Thats classic!

So if there was an anti jewish amendment in there, or any type of racist or sexist amendment, people should still vote for it just because it is a bulk vote?

Is that a typical way of doing business, bundle all the disgraceful anti democratic amendments with normal day to day amendments, and when it is pointed out, use the excuse of a mass amount of amendments to excuse it. Hitler would have liked that tactic!
